An Overview of the Tram II Overhaul

Good news! The Tram II is going nowhere. It will continue carrying passengers during the summer season, as well as the following winter. At some point soon after that, however, the overhaul will commence in earnest. As the first step, the cabins, hangers, and drive mechanism will be replaced. The new cabins will be riding on the same track ropes that have been hanging since 1979, and hauled by the current haul rope, all supported by the original galvanised towers and those orange saddles that are visible from miles away. The two terminals will also remain in place. As you viewers may remember from the last post, the Mountain Station roof was replaced in August 2022.

There are a number of ideas floating around for the question of what to do with the current cabins. These include restaurants, which happened to the old cabins at Jay Peak, after their 2001 replacement. A staff member at the New England Ski Museum is confident that they will get one. Speaking of the Museum, a renovation of the entrance will soon take place, along with a restoration of the last remaining original cabin (Lafayette) from the 1938 Tram (the other one was destroyed in an accident in 1963, leading to the replacement of the cabins for the next season). This comes as a sigh of relief for Tram II fans, as we will not have to see it go anytime soon.
