Heading into the Tram II’s Last Season

Mustard in early 2022.

As of today, it’s 2023. This will be a sad year for us Tram II fans, as it has only three months of carrying passengers left. The Tram II has carried tens of millions of passengers by now, surpassing its predecessor within a few years. It has left an indelible mark on many of those riders, myself included. Its iconic red and yellow (see above) cabins can be seen for miles to the north. Alas, not for much longer. At the end of this operating season, it will shut down. For two summers and a winter, there will be no tram access to the 4100′ summit of Cannon Mountain (the Tram II ascends to 4080′). However, as of this past August, it was still undecided as to whether the new Tram would be a 100-passenger or another 80-passenger. The new machine will reuse the Mountain and Valley Stations, the former of which has been recently reroofed.

***UPDATE: The plans have changed (again), see the 1 May 2023 post for more current information.***
